Cookies
As explained by the Italian Data Protection Authority in its dedicated FAQ page, "cookies are small text files that the websites visited by the user send to their device (usually to the browser), where they are stored so that they can be retransmitted to the same websites on the next visit by the same user. While browsing a website, the user may also receive cookies from websites or web servers other than the one being visited, known as 'third-party' cookies; this happens because the website being visited may contain elements such as images, maps, sounds, or specific links to web pages on other domains that reside on servers different from the one on which the requested page is located. In other words, these are cookies set by a website other than the one currently being visited."
Cookies can be classified in several ways, although the most relevant aspects relate to their duration or persistence, their origin, their functionality, and their ability to collect user preferences and choices.
Broadly speaking, cookies can be grouped into technical cookies, non-technical cookies, and third-party cookies.
Technical cookies
Normally installed by the owner or operator of the website, their purpose is to "carry out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network, or to the extent strictly necessary for the provider of an information society service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user to provide that service" (cf. Art. 122(1) of the Italian Privacy Code). The installation of technical cookies does not require the prior consent of users. Technical cookies are further subdivided into:
Navigation, functional and session cookies
These allow the website to function correctly. The use of so-called session cookies (which are not stored persistently on the device of the data subject and are automatically deleted when the browser is closed) is strictly limited to the transmission of individual session identifiers, and they are used to enable the safe and efficient use of the website.
Statistical or analytical cookies
Statistical or analytical cookies collect information about how users use a website, for example, which pages are visited most often or whether error messages are received from web pages. These cookies do not collect information that identifies a visitor: all information collected is aggregated and therefore anonymous. They are used solely to improve the functioning of a website.
Non-technical cookies
Profiling cookies belong to this category.
Profiling cookies
Their purpose is to create user profiles and they are used to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by the user while browsing the internet. Such cookies are particularly invasive of the user's privacy; for this reason, European and Italian legislation requires that users be adequately informed about their use so that they may express their consent.
Art. 122 of the Italian Privacy Code refers to them where it provides that "the storage of information in a subscriber's or user's terminal equipment, or access to information already stored, shall be permitted only on condition that the subscriber or user has given their consent after being informed in the simplified manner referred to in Article 13(3) of the Privacy Code."
Third-party cookies
Third-party cookies belong to domains other than the one shown in the address bar and are distinguished, by origin, from cookies sent directly by the domain of the website being visited.
Types of cookies used on our website
Our website uses technical cookies, for which no prior consent from users is required, with the sole purpose of ensuring normal browsing and use of the website, collecting information about the use of the site, and obtaining both a statistical analysis of pages viewed and user behaviour. No profiling cookies are used on this website.
Social networks
Social buttons are those particular "buttons" on the website that display social network icons and allow users to interact with a "click" directly with social platforms. The website does not incorporate buttons or widgets of this type, but only hyperlinks to Facebook, Twitter and Google+ which, if followed by the visiting user, result in the installation of cookies, including profiling cookies, by those social networks. No information is shared by the website. For more information, including on how to disable such cookies, please refer to the following links:
